A quick word about our front door.
We ordered a set of TINY ThermaTru out-swing french doors through our local hardware store, Old Monroe Lumber & Rentals.
We talked to a lot of retailers who claimed to make completely custom doors, any size we wanted. . . . until we told them how small our door needed to be, then they all fessed up to buying regular doors and cutting them down, and told us that doors simply could not be cut down that far. So much for “custom” sizing!
We asked around and did a lot of internet research, and finally SOMEONE found out (thanks, Mom!) that Andersen makes out-swing french doors and will cut them to custom heights as low as 73 1/2″ and widths as small as 46″ for double-doors.
We went to our local hardware store to ask about these Andersen doors, and they told us about the more economical but just-as-custom ThermaTru brand, which is what we ended up ordering.
ThermaTru is even going to install the sidelight glass panels into the door for us (for a fee), which makes me feel much more comfortable about the whole thing!
After everything is said and done, these french doors are going to cost us around 00, which might seem like a lot for such a small set of doors, but this french door thing was a design choice that was very important to us.
