After a Power outage in the winter I decided I needed a way to power my house so I could keep the heat going. I decided to purchase a generator and transfer switch. I wanted the setup to be easy for my wife to be able to get the power back on with little effort.
I’m using a Square D transfer switch. It has 60 amp main breaker and 60 amp generator breaker. It has a rocker arm that prevents both power sources from being on at the same time. It has 4 breaker slots that except tandem breakers for a total capacity of 8 circuits. My generator is a Generac GP5500 which is a continuous 5500 watts and a peak output of 6875 watts.
Today I looked up the the transfer switch, it is for sale at Menards for 0. Square D Model: QO48M60DSGP.
I bought the generator panel/transfer switch a few years ago at Menards for less than that.
