If your wood deck is weathered and old, it may be time to look into a simple, easy to treat and install composite deck. Decks made with composite decking look great, can last for years and add value to a home. There are many styles and colors of composite decking to match your home.
To begin, remove any bolts, screws and any other hardware. Start with the lattice, then the posts and then the decking. Pry the components apart carefully so no damage is done to the frame. Check the joists and boards for any damage and repair them. Measure the posts and make sure they meet building codes. Install the posts with carriage bolts and nuts.
As you begin to lay the deck boards, be sure to leave a 1/4″ between each board. Start on the deck edge and work towards the house nailing each board down to each baseboard. For any over hang, mark with a chalk line, and saw off. Once the boards are laid down and cut to fit you can install the base coat molding over the posts.
